Floppy Disk Image

Post by Ozguxxx »

Hi everybody, I wonder is there a way to directly create a floppy disk image that can be used to input to bochs by ld? I create fd images by first constructing kernel image, and then copying it into floppy, and then I get floppy disk image by partcopy into bochs directory. As kernel file gets bigger, this operation gets longer and longer. Are there any ideas to overcome this time consuming thing? How do you reate your FD images for bochs?

get a hold of mtools, its basically all dos tools for wokring with floppy disks (mcopy, mformat, mdelete, mmkdir, mrmdir, etc)..

its what I use. then you just 'mcopy kernel.bin a:\' and it copies it. it has a ocnfig file that tells what disk image is a:\ etc. or b:\

very handy. win32 + unix versions available.

If you just want to play with a disk image and you don't want the hassle of setting up mtools, you might want to try Winimage (http://www.winimage.com/).
