I like to write my own OS.
What file format must use to build a OS kernel?
Thank you.

RE:OS file format
hi,
there is no 'MUST'. just depends on what your goals are
for example
i am using a simple flat binary file created by linking all the necessary object files created in NASM(aout format) and GCC(aout\coff format)
i use a linker script with ld to tell it i want a simple flat binary
but you can link it to ELF or anyother format that MEETS YOUR NEEDS!
This is the main requirement, it should meet you needs and you should be able to work with the file format ie understand it fully

RE:OS file format
if you use the GRUB boot loader, you can use any file format..it doesn't have to be ELF or binary

RE:OS file format
I'm used to plain binary format, and it seems to work fine. Although maybe that's why I'm having some trouble with some parts of my program, not really sure. Oh well.

Flat binary is far easier. ELF can be better but takes more work. if you dont know how look at the linux source and its all there
