Info for Newbies + My OS

The numbers in superscript indicate the reference. Which are then shown in a references at the end. The Disclaimer at the bottom of the contents page also says that some of the research material is taken from other docs. Is this not enough? What else do I need to do? Seems strange to have to reword stuff described so well by someone else. Why reinvent the wheel?

Currently the code is only available from the document and some files aren't included because they are just mock ups to allow me to test the current stuff. If you want you can just use the Text Copy thing in Acrobat. But at the moment none of it is at all ground breaking.

EDIT : Added comment that Paging section is reformatted from Intel Manual. Looked at the intel manual and there doesn't seem to be anything saying its uncopyable. So hopefully no copyright lawyers

I'm surprised you managed to copy anything at all from the Intel manuals: the PDFs I downloaded won't let you copy a thing.

Also, if they say 'Copyright Intel' anywhere, then you can't copy and publish them without asking Intel.

If I were you, I'd just link to the PDFs, or come up with your own tables, text and diagrams. In fact, if I were you, I'd be lazy, and just link to the PDFs anyway.

Hopefully enough, Pete isn't lazy and took the time to extract the stuff ... I think it's very wise while just pointing to the intel manual would lead to a lot of readers
a. not downloading that huuuge document (and they'd be wrong)
b. not understanding what is said (as they don't have the document)

Imho, just leaving a page footer with "extracted from Intel Pentium Manual Volume 3 -- pp x-y -- Copyright Intel Corp." would be sufficient when you have fully copied text & pictures, and a mention in the figure's caption when you just get a figure, but not the accompanying text.

Trouble is that the text is isn't exactly what's in the manual. I removed things like "see Section X:Y" which would link the reader to the wrong place in my doc. Also I've taken out paragraphs I feel not very useful. The dislaimer/copyright notice at the beginning of the manual says:-

Until the last line there seems to be nothing against me using it as research material. Its not as though I've claimed it as my own.

If I must I'll rewrite the info like I've done with the less complicated GDT, IDT, PIC stuff.

The same legalities apply as if you were producing a technical document or article afaik.

You are allowed to quote directly from the text so long as it is made clear that you are quoting and the original text is referenced either directly or in a bibliography.

What you can't do is use the text in such a way as to make it appear as original content.

provided that you clearly show where you have removed text (...) so that noone can believe the original message was the one without some parts of the text (and thus could misinterprete /what/ was the original text).

Using a different font, for instance, or special paragraph indentation, would be something "clear" to indicate you're quoting ...
