Re:Do i need DOS?
That is a option...DOS is not nesisarry...but FreeDOS, a GNU DOS, will help alot....that is, if your OS is GNU ... is it?

Re:Do i need DOS?
If you want to clone Windows 95 completely then you will need some DOS infrastructure underneath. However, I don't recommend that you do, because you'd confuse yourself (and the rest of us) figuring out the Windows 95 design, and you wouldn't have a very good OS in the end.
I recommend finding out how Windows NT works; there's a lot more information about, and it's a much cleaner design. You won't need DOS unless you decide to write your loader to run under DOS (which the ReactOS people did).

Re:Do i need DOS?
The youthful enthusiasm almost amazes me!
Cloning Windows 95 is a *huge* task and to be honest, why bother?
Why not try and create something new and different?
Remember, at the end of the day, there is a good chance nobody will ever use your OS except yourself unless you manage to get to a reasonably advanced stage.
In fact the only two OS projects on here I have ever tried are Clicker and The Mobius. Both of which unfortunately did strange things for me. The Mobius displayed corrupted text on screen and clicker locked dead!
So what I am trying to say is, create an OS for yourself, if you like it and think its great, others probably will too

Re:Do i need DOS?
If you are going to clone Win 9x I'd recommend you cut out the DOS layer between BIOS and Windows and then just emulate DOS under windows. This will allmost definately make the OS more stable.
