will it get a job after making an os from scratch

Hello everyone,

I have been woking on my os from a long time not so much and its kinda hard for me sometimes to do it continously without any money considering my age (24). My os will be completed in 2027 but i was wondering if i will ever get a job after this project though i got some experience in linux contributor but still i have no certainity and constantly worry weather i will get a job after it. Any advice, suggestion and guidence would be really helpful . Thanks you all for you precious time.

Hi,

thank you for your polite message. Having a completed OS dev project in your portfolio is a good proof that you can write system-level code, and are willing to commit even to longer projects and see them through. I have a bit of a problem with that point myself. In that sense it may help you get hired. However, if you are trying to land a job at a web development shop and you show up with an OS, they may see that as irrelevant experience and discard for that reason as well.

There's no way to tell the future. Personally, I am doing this as a hobby, so I do not expect to get paid in any way (including job offers). And in fact, would not list the repo as credentials when job hunting. But who knows? Time makes fools of us all at some point.

Thanks for you response. Its actually quit amazing to know that you are doing this as a hobby project i also doing this as well just for learning purpose.
While i will not certianly apply for a web dev job or expect any payment for my os but in the end i have to apply for a job in system dev though you are right that there is no certianity about future.
