How does copyright expiration work with companies in the US? For people it's 70 years after their death, but I don't see a company legally dying.

for personal copyrights, its 70 years after the persons death -- but most people create a company to hold there copyrights:

for companies, its a set number of years after the subjects creation (something like 115 years, iirc -- but i think that was the 1978 number -- i think its been changed since then), regardless of the status of the company

I was talking about the content of the pictures, Not the GIMP application inflater, I couldn't give a rats a** if GIMP runs on Windows or not.

Posting links to such things like classic Windows is more appropriate for a Warez forum.

We're not offended by Windows. In a similar vein to Satanists also being required to believe in God (up to a level - if there's no god, how can there be a satan), the only people that actually dislike Windows are people linearly averse to it. We're not directly averse to it (we're not depending on its downfall), we just dislike it.

We're as serious as the laws require us to be. Even though it's a pointless exercise, it's illegal software. We as a forum / community do not publically use illegal software so the link should not be there. There are countries in which the entire forum can be taken offline because some person put the link up, and I expect the host of this forum to be in one of those countries.

The point isn't that you can't buy it. Nobody's requiring people to sell you something. If you can't buy something, stealing it isn't accepted. You might feel like you have a "right" to get the product, but you don't. You could know where plutonium is sold, but you still can't buy it.
