All off topic discussions go here. Everything from the funny thing your cat did to your favorite tv shows. Non-programming computer questions are ok too.
That sucks that you would be using SSH df, you were you doing everyting manually through that? I use a Lniux server *http://patat.org* but hardly ever even get into the bash...it seems so much easier just to use things like PHPMyAdmin and SmartFTP for Altering/Uploading stuff... Is there an alternative for SSH around that this other site has? (Im not really familiar with non-SSH hosts...)
So this means that MT will run faster though right? Thats prett *bling-bling* if you ask me...but just ask your self where your proirites lie...in the bash or with the cash (i think that probabally wasnt a good ending statement.... :-\)
you cant do a dump/restore in mysql via phpMyAdmin.
setting up and installing things is SOOO much easier doing it via ssh than fighting in the FTP + Browser.
do you use SFTP or FTP with SSL? otherwise your transmitting passwords over unencrypted connections
if i need to do things on my host, i SSH into it. running, setting up, admining your host is soooo much easier via ssh.

Im using SFTP...if you are looking to dump your MT database...there is a mod that can do that for you in the later releases of YSE...i have it on mine also...i can see where you are coming from on the easiness of SSH...although i never use it...a dude from patat has taught me some *pretty nifty* stuff...but so far ive found alternatives than the good ol' bash...you probabally do more stuff than i do with this hosting stuff...so i guess you'd know more than me
Also...SFTP gives out no encrypted passwords?!?! not like anyone would want to use MY stuff...it is nothing big or exciting... ::) but yet it is still mine .
I used to use SCP (PSCP) but i found it easier to use SFTP...cause i really dont like working with parameters and stuff :-\
EDIT: I can dump with PHPMyAdmin...i just use the * Export *feature...prehaps you have an older version? :-\
whats the use of the dump if you cant reimport? the MT mysqldump is 24mb.. you cant just paste that into phpmyadmin 'sql' box...
this new host tho, i can add btopenworld.com (my adsl provider) to the mysql user table.. so i should be able to use premiumsoft navicat to connect to it remotly and just mirror my local to the host! sweeeeeet
But when i think about it...he could be right...i mean unless you are gonna start a PSX ISO database or abandon...stuff... site why would you need 5GB...but the bandwidth....ARGH your call man....im glad im not making this descision!

most of my storage is images and my FTP site.
bandwidth, youd be surprised at how much the os-faq + forum generate.
Well, I'd choose the second one (but I have a host already: www.eero.com, www.eero.net, www.eero.org)... Pictures and FTP won't take more than 800 MB anyway and bandwidth is the thing, what could never be enough... ;D But right, this is yours to decide...

well with a 128mb memory stick on my camera, 800mb storage space disappears fast i take shots at 1280x960, sometimes bigger. sometimes smaller. depends. most of my old photos were small 800x600/640x480 size. now its all a minimum of 1280x960.
hires photos take space.
anyway, its still easter holidays so i have not heard any responses from the hosting sites yet...
