Hi,

I am writing an OS with some friends.
Our problem is: The OS should be in English and German. We want to set the German keyboard layout in the German version but how can we do that?

Do we have to write a keyboard driver?
Do you know tutorials, sources...explanations for that topic?

I hope, you can help me.

ts.

P.S.: Don't wonder about my English! ;D I've just learned English for one and a half year in school :)

Is that correct English? Can you correct it if it is wrong?:

Caution! Your real RAM size (extended memory) can be larger than the displayed size.

Have a look at the E-Mail I wrote you...
In general:
On every keyboard IRQ, your driver has to read the scancode. Unfortunately, the scancode is not the same as the ASCII code. So your job is to map the scancode to ASCII code. This can be implemented using a simple array. You define which scan code stands for which ASCII.

It's just as easy, or difficult, to translate scan codes for a German keyboard as it is for any other. In the end it's just a big array which maps scan codes to ASCII codes.
