Good designed, but I hate sites which are published before there is anything to look at. You'll have to fill the site...

Two things:

One, I swear I have seen other OS projects called Omicron (probably because it is a *kewl* sounding name)

Two, Its better to have something to show, vapourware doesn't impress!

This project is have one fundamental difference, which separates it from the others. The difference is that this new kernel will be developed with the end user in mind. Therefore the OS will be user friendly from the design stage up.
Expand on that, I've yet to see an new OS that doesn't say that.

Wow, the monkey knows how to cut & paste!!! This idiots site design and code was taken straight from http://www.reactos.com/ -- another OS that actually exists. Steve Andre Cockeram should f***ing sue you for claiming your site design as yours and actually putting a copyright notice on it (one that DOESN'T EXIST). *pfft* I'll tell you what I think: you're a moron and everyone on this board knows just what kind of "OS" your going to barf up. One that's copied & pasted..................

P.S. Oh God, there's Tom again advertising FritzOS...

Also, you should talk to the owner of http://omikron.sourceforge.net/ about your choice of name.

For all I know both this and ReactOS use something like PHPNuke to generate their sites so I won't comment on that. They are identical though, and you can't claim copyright on something you didn't write let alone a registered trademark for something that isn't trademarked.

The NASM link should point at NASM's homepage on sourceforge, not at the www.kernel.org download site (This is the main linux kernel site and afaik they specifically ask people to use the mirrors for downloads).

When you're making updates, or actually just writing for the web in any language, make sure you run the text through a spellchecker first. Poor spelling gives a very bad first impression to any visitors. I'm not talking about making it sound like an english essay, but technical documents need clarity and spelling is a part of that.

Berserk, the reason people jumped quite so quickly is because one of the greatest irritations to programmers is unacknowledged copying. When I first landed on planet Mega-Tokyo I posted a bootsector which I had "rewritten" from John Fine's without crediting him. DF jumped on me for that one, and once I figured out why I could see why it was totally justified (Memory's hazy, he could have just mentioned something about the commenting, but that would ruin the relevance of the story ;D). Always credit your sources, no matter how insignificant the piece of code may be.

Of course the other thing OS programmers are real twitchy about is the name of the OS. If I started using Mobius for a name I'd fully expect to take some flack for it. It's first come first served in the OS name department.
Expand on that, I've yet to see an new OS that doesn't say that.

I fully expect whatever I come up with to be as user unfriendly as possible. Think of the immense geek audience out there desperate for a directory listing command that takes 4 years to know how to use properly (Been reading the Linux section of osnews too long ;D).

PS Tom, yeah, too much :)

I do think blatant copying is wrong, at least put a notice somewhere saying what is based on.

And the OS name, yes I knew I had heard of it before, try to think of something original. Mine is called Lucid, but only because I couldn't think of anything better at the moment I was creating my directory to store everything in!!

PS. Now you mention it, I did "borrow" the string/vsprintf code from Linux, but very early on with the intention of re-writing it. Maybe its time to either write my own code or officially GPL my code, at the moment its not under any particular license but is available to download completely.

Incidentally once I get an annoying freezing bug fixed, I will upload another version of my code, been quite a lot of changes recently and is starting to achieve a moderate level of completeness in the core areas. Also, its heavily commented and not using any arcane c trickery so it could be a good source of info for others on here.

Tom, I do think you advertise a lot, but I realise it can be of a big help to people.
