This might be a little tech-related, but I figured someone here has experience with it since a lot of comic readers, writers, and artists use multiple computers for work, streaming, or digital art.

I’m trying to simplify my desk setup and was wondering:

Does anyone here use a keyboard with a KVM switch to control more than one computer?

I’m curious about:

How well the switching works

Whether there’s any noticeable delay with the keyboard or mouse

If it’s practical for people who switch between a work PC, gaming PC, or drawing tablet/comic workstation

Any issues with USB devices not being recognized when swapping

Whether HDMI/DisplayPort KVMs are reliable for regular use

Not looking for brands or links — just personal experiences or tips.

Anyone more suspicious than I am, given your user name, might suspect your post to be spam. Can I ask why, if you are not already familiar with these switching devices, you chose the name “kvm”?

To answer your question, I use a Logitech keyboard/Mouse combo that connects to 3 devices rather than a kvm-type switch. Works just fine for me.

I've deleted the link to kvmswitchtech dot com since there really is no need to share a link to a store that has financial incentive for people to share links when you could instead link to Wikipedia's page on KVM switches.

Like iansjack, I use a Logitech keyboard and mouse that can connect via Bluetooth to both my desktop and laptop, and switch between them as needed. Bluetooth is fine for the little gaming I do, and if I did do more, I could probably switch to one of the dedicated Lightspeed receivers.

I also have a collection of retro gaming/testing PCs on a bench. I've never found a KVM switch that satisfies my requirements there, so I just switch the cables on the monitor, keyboard and mouse between the PCs as needed (which I don't do very often as once I've got one computer set up, I tend to use it for a few months before switching).

I should have added that for monitor switching I use DP and/or HDMI switch in conjunction with the input select of the monitor. My monitor has DP, HDMI, and DVI inputs. You need to be careful with HDMI switches as not all support 4K resolution.
