BOCHS and GRUB

I am writing a Multiboot-compatible kernel on an EXT2 filesystem, and I decided to use GRUB to semplify the boot process. I did not want to reboot every time the PC to debug my kernel, so I started using Bochs. But I have a problem: how do I configure GRUB to run under Bochs?
My test hard disk is the primary slave one, and on Bochs it is the primary master one, so it is obvious that GRUB crashes and prints the message "Geom error" or "Read error" when reading the stage2 file.

It would be simplier if I had a simple 512-byte bootcode that loads the kernel directly on the ext2 fs. I know on the net there are those bootcodes, but most are written for FAT filesystem (e.g. John Fine's bootcode)
