I am currently looking for books on operating systems and don't want too pay 40.00 for a P.O.S. Book
What is the best book on operating systems design and principles?

RE:Book Opinions
I don't know about design and principles, but for low level details, you can't beat "Protected Mode Software Architecture" by Tom Shanley, Mindshare Inc. (0-201-55447-X).
It has some info about design, but... really... should that be up to you, and not a book?
Cheers,
Jeff

RE:Book Opinions
Since free is always a good price(even shipping) you might want to get hardcover versions of the intel manuals

"Operating Systems: Design & Implementation", Tanenbaum and Woodhull, Prentice-Hall, 1992. Covers a lot of theory with regular references to Minix (which is described in detail).
See also "Modern Operating Systems" by Tanenbaum. Doesn't mention Minix, at least not regularly, but is more current than OS:D&I.
