It seems that the IRC channel logs are down for about a week:

http://bespin.org/~nef/logs/osdev/18.08.07
http://bespin.org/~nef/logs/osdev/18.08.08

I'm sure that this was discussed on IRC already, but... well... there are no logs about such a discussion. Could this be related to the recent spam wave?

I think so.

To be more specific; in response to the spam the channel was (temporarily) configured to require authentication (nickserve), and I suspect that this is preventing the channel logger from joining the channel.

Cheers,

Brendan

Well, air was in charge of clog and the Web site so you may ask him about it. But who really gives a damn about the logs? They are mostly pointless.

I sometimes use the logs when I enter the channel, stumble into an interesting conversation and want to see how it started / whether anything more interesting was said that I just missed.

I did that a few times, too. However, it's probably best to use a bouncer instead, as not all channels are publicly logged.

For future reference, we now have logbot logging in the channel: https://freenode.logbot.info/osdev/
