I would recommend that you make sure you are the kind of person who doesn't need to ask. Just get on with it and build whatever it is that you see the need to build. You shouldn't need the advice or approval of anyone here for that because you should already be the expert in what you want to do.

It is making fun of these people who think they are "real programmers" and that other people aren't. This kind of programming was done out of necessity when there was no alternative. As soon as there were easier ways of working, it became obsolete. There is no need to write code bit by bit unless you are trying to test yourself just to see if you could have done it, or perhaps to turn yourself into a living work of art. If you want to do either of those things, just get on with it. Pick a platform, study its machine instructions and start building something.
