Hi Gandalf
I had a look at the PPT presentations and the screenshots and I was pretty impressed. The whole project looks quite advanced to me - how long have you been working on it ?

The system seems to be a monolithic kernel and there are some things in the presentations like the usage of TSS and segmentation that bound you to the Intel architecture. Making the design a bit more modular may be a big advantage later, especially if you're intending to port the system one day.

Could you upload an floppy image, please ?

btw:
How did you do the boot-font ?

It looks much better that these ugly BIOS letters.

hi gaf,

Thanks a lot for the feedback. We(i.e. me & my friends) have been working for the past one year (But real coding started around Dec 2003). And everything that we have achieved is because of this OSDEV forum and friendly osdevers like you.

And yes TSS has bound me to Intel. Right now if we had to port our OS we will have to change a bit of code in our schedule function(i.e, instead of calling a  TSS we will load the respective descriptors & cr3 and then do a far jump to the necessary code segment)
I will try to upload the boot image soon.  You see I have a 56K Dialup connection :-(

For the dynacube boot up font actually it is not real bios fonts. They are custom fonts that we made which can be used in 800 x 600 mode(The mode in which our OS works right now). So immediately @ bootup we switch to VESA VBE 114 mode and then print the info.

hi ASHLEY4,

Thanks for your feedback and encouragement. Well what sort of OS is yours ? I would love to hear from you. By the way my OS isn't mature enough to be compared with linux / Xp.

Hi
What i ment by linux/xp is conventional desk-tops OS.
My type of OS,Would be single tasking, multy-threading,but it will work with multy prossers,Not as in the same PC, But as in clusters (eg. lots of PC bases).

This would give each program a prosser,But could also divide a single program in to chuncks and dvided over a number of prossers.
eg: To crack a password,10 days to crack,10 prossers takes 1 day.

Take games, if each prosser has a camera veiw and you had ten prossers,as you turn with your VR glass on ,the prosser would be swiched, this would give you top quality VR.
As prossers come down in price Y multy-task ?,this was ok when prossers were dear, but not know.

Also people do not want to see a lot of info on start up,give them a graphic demo, and only give info if some is wrong.
Also people when desining you OS remember there will be no mouse ,just driven menu's.

Just think if you had the above, with wireless net works, and you got 1000's of people with laptop in a hall ,link then together into one big super computer.

hi ASHLEY4,

Your sorta OS looks great to me (Sounds great). You are not by any chance a hacker ? :-??
And for printing so much info on bootup - Yea it is true that people will get bored. But the problem is that if I don't many don't understand what is going on inside.

Want an example ?
The other day one of my friends congratulated us for such a nice project and asked me whether we were using GTK Glade (Feel like laughing ?) for our GUI.To many OS just looks like just another C/C++ program !!!
So against my own wish I'm printing all those info so that ppl will understand the many things that are going behind the scenes and that we worked from scratch to make these happen.

Looks very impressive!  I'll definitly be watchin' where this project goes :)

Nice work!
Jeff

PS: You're one of the few projects that has official documentation... I applaud that!  I wish I had better docs for my own OS! ;)

hi CarbonBased,

Thank you for your review. I'm happy that you visited our site. Actually our OS development was pretty slow before you told me about the image mounting technique.

Thanks you.

PS: As for the documentation we just made doxygen to crawl thru our source files.

Wow, you've made it this far in only 3 months of coding?  I'm impressed.  I don't know if you're planning on open sourcing the whole project, but if you are I will really look forward to seeing the rest of your code.

Keep us all posted.

RE:Open Source - Yea sure

hi rexlunae,

Thank you rexlunae for your feedback.

We have been working on this keeping in mind the Open Source Philosophy. We will certainly make the source code public once we are satisfied with our code (Probably around April end).

Yea I will surely post any major changes in Dynacube OS.

ThanksGandalf

It looks impressive. Does this project have anything to do with your diploma?

hi Anton,

Thanks for your feedback. Well Dynacube OS happens to be our final year project for course completion of B.E(Bachelor of Engineering - we don't call it a Diploma).

But we are not going to stop developing our project - Actually we intend to develop it further after college.
