I would appreciate if the signature limit of letters would be 512 or at least 384 :)

I think the current limit should suffice, honestly they'll get distracting...

It's big enough. If I could change it, I would change it to 512 characters, no images/embeds allowed, no more than 3 newlines allowed.

I think the current length which is 255 char is okay.

I agree with Candy - it's not the size in bytes of the signature that counts, but the size on screen. Posting large images in signatures gets you on the bad side of people. But a small sig with its share of links can be very useful, but is unfortunately blocked by the signature limit. I spent half an hour to fit my signature into the 255 character limit, while IMO its not exactly oppressive.

Disabling images is an alternative, although their use comes down to pretty much the same thing as mentioned above. Small banners may very well be useful, large ads are a definate don't. But there's hardly a failsafe way to check the size of included images.

I voted to keep the same. More text in the signature area will only distract from actual posts. I also agree with either signature image removal or size limitations.

Historically (meaning, in the times of text-only e-mail), two-line signatures were deemed appropriate, four-line the acceptable maximum...

Sounds a lot like 3 newlines max.

Why, I should have voted for a higher limit
Well to late now, now I'm having trouble fitting everything in my sig...
@Chase: would it really be that much of a problem, even if only a few people have the problem, can't you change the limit to something higher, even if it's just for a few people?
Please [-o<

Jules

i think it seems reasonable... i mean neither inflater or suthers sigs are offensive or obtrusive (it would be a problem if someone had several paragraphs of text though)

Well, no offence, but MessiahAndrw's sig is a "bit" bigger... #-o 7 lines of text + a picture 300x135...
