1- The hardware is not far fetched. See http://www.vimicro.com/english/product/pc001.htm .
2- Do I really need to have a 1000 posts before I ask such a question? :P

I am sorry I have to post a question here out of all places. I have a knack of choosing hardware that does not conform to some open standard (it is a curse). The reason I chose to post here is because what I want to do with a webcam is (I believe) a part of OS development, driver development.

I hope that answers your question.
