Minimalist designs are nice in my opinion also, but skeuomorphism also looks cool when its done right, think Windows 7.

Also, while this is a mock-up at present, I may expand my command line experiment thing into a graphical operating system if I ever get that far. I've not mentioned that it exists before because I'm mainly doing it for fun, I half expect I won't finish it.
