On October 4th Antti and I had a spontaneous OSDev mini conference in Helsinki. We decided to set up an official OSDev booth in a very elusive place right next to the President's Palace close to the Southern Harbour of Helsinki - see the picture. Well, I should add that there is a construction going on at the residence, so it looks a bit like the code of many OSDev projects. But so it fits even better, right? And of course, the important thing is just that we did it!

The old newspapers on the wall behind them hang like a banner.

This is funny though, congrats on the first ever (?) OSDev conference. Nice touch getting a random passerbyer to take the photo.

Thank you XenOS, it was really nice to have a discussion about OSDev in real life. Also, our Helsinki tourist tour and off-topic discussions were as interesting as the main topic itself. I would say The OSCon 2014 was very successful.

Thanks also to Antti for the nice guided tour of Helsinki! :)

Actually it was my travel assistant who took the picture ;)

Well, I think Combuster and Solar had "conferences" of similar size or larger? I remember reading this once, but my memory may be wrong.

On the topic of ODev conferences, there is another semi-related one happening in London on November 25th. It seems to have talks from various projects, perhaps a bit more mainstream oriented than what people do here. But who knows! :)

It's not free unfortunately, and, for people like me.. it's on another continent.

Yeah, but conferences need photos to prove they happened. I don't think anyone wants to see those photos.

I don't have any photos. I still have the content of my goodie bag though - and perhaps Solar does as well 8)

It can be another part of a conference motivation to participate in a guided tour :)

I can offer a guided tour in Moscow. And hopefully there will be a bit bigger auditory :)

Is there anything special in it? Sounds like a fruitful meeting ;)

If I happen to be there, I'll take your word! :) I can offer guided tours of Tartu and maybe Tallinn, the latter probably being more interesting for visitors.

Baltic states have nice places to visit, I hope some day I'll drive there :)

Just for completeness, the follow-up OSDev mini conference happened in 2016. We could not find any better place so we stayed right next to the President's Palace just like two years ago. It was really nice say aloud some OSDev-specific technical terminology, give comments on what is happening on the forum, etc.

Thank you all the participants! Special thanks goes to all members of this forum for keeping the community alive. Without you there would not be so many topics to discuss about. :)

Thanks also to all participants and in particular to Antti for providing the OsDev logo and the camera for our group picture! This conference was indeed a successful follow-up :)
