Assuming I've generated a GUID for my filesystem's partition type, is there a way to enter that via the util-linux fdisk/cfdisk utilities? I'm struggling to find one, either in the interface help, the man page, or googling.

To my knowledge this isn't supported and you'd have to manually write the partition table entries. But I might be wrong -- but if so I've never heard of it.

Use gdisk.

Thanks for the pointer!

It also seems trivial to add new GUIDs to the list of ones it recognizes, which will make my life much easier.

It'd be even easier if it could be done via a configuration file rather than editing the source and recompiling, but it's just a one-time task so not that big a deal.

Are you talking about modifying fdisk or gdisk? You don't need to modify gdisk to set the GUID.

gdisk

I'm talking about modifying it so I can use a shortcut codes for my filesystem's GUID like those that it recognizes for more widely-known types, rather than having to enter the full GUID every time.
