Might just have been a domain expiration issue

Here is a cached form of their news: http://72.14.209.104/search?q=cache:dZM8lPRYbt8J:www.osdever.net/+&hl=en&gl=us&ct=clnk&cd=1&client=firefox-a It seems to explain that the problem is caused by a new server they are setting up.

They are trying to setup everything to launch a bunch of mostly web development sites. Seems they are 9xnet.com(web hosting?) and they are launching phpdever.net ajaxdever.net cssdever.net(probably more) and relaunching osdever.net. I think they are going to keep all the old tutorials and they are going to try to move the mega-tokyo forums to their own custom forum software again this weekend. You can still get most the the docs they were hosting by going to the way back machine http://web.archive.org/web/

I never liked the idea or name of osdever.net ("Bonafide"). I am glad this place kicked back up.

Does "Bonafide" mean anything? :?

The phrase is actually "bona fide", steming from the two Latin words "bonus" (bona) and "fidelis" (fide). When put together, the words literally mean "good faith", but in actual use... it is meant to describe something that is "authentic/real/sincere/invaluable".

So in the best context of "Bonafide OS Development", it can be understood as "An invaluable place [of resource] for OS Development".

However good the meaning, the basic fact that you (bubach) asked that question, is exactly why I do not like the name... it is not an intuitive use of English :)

That's funny, the Bonafide never really bothered me, it's the "dever" that I always sounded kinda...well...odd. I've never heard dever used as shorthand for developer anywhere else. But maybe with their collection of dever sites they can make it popular. Hopefully they do well, I've seen too many osdev related sites come and go. BTW, they seem to be back up now.

the funny thing is I never call myself a C-Dever or anything I rather use programmer or developer but OS-Dever just seems right to me and programmer or developer just seem to not really sound right but thats just me

This thread is two years old. Do you not know that 2006 falls before 2008, and that they are in no way equal? That is, that you are in the year 2008, not 2006. 2008. Not 2006. 2008. Definitely 2008. Oh, yeah, so, yeah: 2008. Did I mention it was 2008? Please check the dates. Thank you! Have a nice day, and, please, do post again. Toodles!

I think we need a tutorial to teach people how to read and compare dates.

Bonafide OS Development was another time down a month ago, osdev.org hosted his pages, now it's up. I wanted to let all know it's up.

So, make a new thread. Or better just let people discover it themselves unless someone asking.

OK. Sorry. All this complications just for a news... Sorry if I wrote that Bonafide OS Development is now up. It's a very cruel thing to say...
