Before we write the articles we have to decide what articles to write. If everyone writes what they want, we'll have a mess of mellowcholoniousgwizchekious garble. There has to be at least some direction to the matter.

I agree with Alboin. I'm willing to write, but I would like at least a general idea/topic of what to write about.

we need an application process to decide who does what.

we should decide 'in stone' what positions there are to be filled, and then find a way to apply for that position.

without set roles, this will go nowhere.

Writers are not permanent, and therefore they do not hold positions.
  • Art team (2-3) - Will create art and graphics for the mag. (eg. cover art.)
  • Team of main editors (3-4) - Will put together the mag. They will review all submitted articles, edit them, and put everything together with graphics from DA.
  • Web team (3-4) - publishes mag, maintains website and forums. Also uses art from DA.
  • Public relations - Answers emails, promotes mag, etc.
That's about all I've got atm.

EDIT: Modified art team.

ok, then we should go with that as it sounds like a pretty good setup.

I think for the application process, just post here of what you wish to do and some reasons why it would be a good idea having you at that position.

I'll apply for the web team with the reasons stated earlier.

I know there were a few people who said they could donate some bandwidth, I'm sure they would want in on one of the teams.

I can probably review\edit submitted articles, along with writing a few, so I guess I apply for the editing team. I'm not too shabby with English, and do enjoy reading, so it shouldn't be too horrible. ;)

I might be able to do art if I knew what that entailed exactly.

You'd need to create any graphics that the editors or web designers needed. SVG or actual scanned works, etc. This would be needed as all art work would have to be public domain, a similar license, or of your own creation.

For example, if someone were doing a piece on quantum cryptography, and the editors were putting it into the mag, they might want some graphics that had a 'quantum' feel, or something to decorate the page. Moreover, you would need to do the cover art. It's a moderate sized job once I think about it; maybe it'll take 2-3 people for the art team.

I'll write articles when time permits.
And, true, general topics would be good, and some way to discuss them so we don't end up with a 30 page thread (new forum? Wiki page?)

But just articles that we write on our own topics can be submitted too, right?

about the hosting. What about the domain? should one invest i an appropiate one? I do hold the g33kz-inn.org but i doubt that will be suitable.

I could probably put some of my time in to making art for the mag.

What about aquiring a subdomain from OSDev.org? like say "magazine.osdev.org"? That seems to be a good cost-effective solution, I just do not know who to ask.

Ok, so far:
os.hacker64 (art)
piranha (writer)
t0xic (writer)
Alboin (editor)
myself (web)

I'm probably missing some people, I just looked below this post quickly.

seems that we are making progress, a few more people and this could actually get off the ground.

*kicks self*
if some people here think its worth asking, I'll send an email about a subdomain, but if there is a better idea I'll wait a day or two before doing it.

What about mag.osdev.org? It's shorter. ;)
