I wouldn't be surprised if this is your clever way of bypassing rent-a-coder.com. For instance, how do you propose you'll gain funding for a project doomed to generate little to no interest from the general public? Moreover, your application would be rejected simply because you probably can't even intelligently describe what it is you're trying to do, having absolutely no background or experience or skill or knowledge to do so. The truth is, you probably have no money. Moreover, I personally don't like that you wont openly describe your totally awesome vision, which I bet is a defensive move actually, and I don't like that you are a non-programmer with no money.

Anyone who works on this project better negotiate a fixed price and ask for 50% of it up front.

I believe to hire any real coders here you would need a bit of the idea/design/vision than a "XOK fork".

Anyone willing to release large sums of cash with no apparent return is either hiding something or just plain stupid. So which is it?

If you give me $50,000 CAD I'll consider joining your team, but, It's more likely I'll just spend the money on pizza and not join.

Yen? Euro? USD?

2-4 thousand of any of those things is not going to be a lot for what is essentially full-time work for at least 10 years for several people (see SkyOS, Linux kernel). And you're not going to get a bank or investment firm talking to you until you have a prototype. The prototype you're going to have to show them will basically have to be fully-functional as far as the kernel goes, as well.

Sorry, but things aren't looking good here.

jack's right. trust me, your idea is going to hit some *serious* roadblocks. walls, if you will.

another thing. "forking" XOK isn't going to get you anywhere! you need a really good idea of what problem exactly you're out to solve, and how exactly you're going to go about it. modifying XOK, and presenting it as your prototype is definitely not the best way to go about it, buddy. this is *your* project. then shouldn't it be more about *your* ideas, and not what XOK's all about?

seriously. there's more to OSDev than money, job openings, and forking existing projects. how many people outside MIT do you see using XOK everyday?
wait. how many people even know that such a thing exists?

It is than up to the people to decide. There's no point in a selling point if you don't have a working system, or at least one with a proper GUI that is what I think.

i agree with the second part.
but the thing is - this is a business venture, right?
now, i'm not a business studies student. my interests lie solely in either computer programming, and in history, art, international politics and so on.
but i've had loads of experience with my current job.
YOU DON'T LET THE PEOPLE DECIDE. YOU MAKE THEM DECIDE WHETHER TO GO IN FOR YOUR PRODUCT OR NOT.
and trust me, mate. if this is your plan, may the Lord help you.

Well, given that 90% of all software projects fail, and that you obviously have no relevant experience not to make it fail, add to that your stubbornness, well...

Experience is a good teacher, but unfortunately not a kind one. Good luck to you, and everybody else who are trying to get their wages in a few month's time.

I doubt there's more to say about it...

Yeah, and 90% of all stats are made up on the spot :)

Not really

Still, if you consider a success as on time, on budget, and with the originally allocated set of human resources, it isn't far from the truth. Regarding the case in question where all points reek of "no prior experience", I estimate the fail chance much higher than 90%.
